Definitive Technology Introduces Cube Bluetooth® Audio System

Cube’s Unique Design is Shelf-Space Efficient, Runs on AC and Battery Power, and Features Tri-Polar Technology for More Immersive Sound

Baltimore, MD (September 25, 2013) – Leading high-end loudspeaker manufacturer, Definitive Technology, announced today the company’s newest Bluetooth wireless audio system, Cube. Cube is a smaller-than-a-toaster self-powered, wireless stereo loudspeaker that sounds more like a full size audio system than a table-top speaker. Featuring speaker components on the sides as well as the top in a “Tri-Polar” configuration for enhanced sonic performance, the Cube provides users with a more immersive listening experience.

Tri-polar Technology for Huge Sound

Because its speakers are placed mere inches apart, compact Bluetooth speakers usually sound as small as they look. Definitive Technology’s Cube features speakers on two sides and on the top of the enclosure in what Definitive calls a “Tri-Polar” configuration, producing a greater sense of stereo separation through left and right channels at a 90 degree angle. Additionally, topside upward-firing speakers add a sense of image height and breadth not normally found in single box tabletop audio systems.

 Space Saving Design

Cube’s unique and striking design serves to overcome a problem typical of speakers used on kitchen counters, bookshelves and credenzas. “Many shelf speakers and radios command tremendous amounts of shelf space due to their form factor,” said Definitive Technology’s Chief Design Officer Michael DiTullo. “We sought to solve that limitation by using a simple cube shape that fits perfectly in an otherwise underutilized portion of a countertop—the corner.”

Cube’s aesthetic follows Definitive Technology’s minimalist design philosophy of clean, contemporary lines, high quality materials and precision assembly as embodied in recent products such as the Sound Cylinder Bluetooth speaker and SoloCinema XTR surround bar, as well as the upcoming Incline desktop audio system.

 Bluetooth with Touch-to-Pair

Listeners with Bluetooth-enabled smart devices such as smart phones, tablets and laptops can access a vast array of music. Simply pair a mobile device to the Cube to wirelessly stream music files stored on the device, and access any subscription music streaming service, podcasts, cloud-stored audio content, and more. If a smart device can get to it, Cube will play it with fantastic audio fidelity.

All Bluetooth-enabled products are compatible with the Cube, but devices equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) such as those with Android and Blackberry operating systems are especially easy to pair by gently touching the device to the Cube. Best of all, Cube gets near-CD sound quality from Bluetooth streams by supporting aptX and AAC codecs.

 Ready for Anywhere

Although an AC household current powers the Cube, it also has a built-in Lithium Ion battery. When plugged into AC power, Cube automatically charges the internal Li-ion power pack. Users can simply unplug Cube’s power cord, pick it up and carry it anywhere they want full-fidelity sound for up to 8 hours of battery-powered listening. Additionally, a handy notch on the back of Cube makes it easy to pick up and move.

 Availability and Pricing

Cube will be available to North American retailers in October 2013; 240V versions for export markets will be available in November. Cube will also be sold by Definitive Technology’s existing dealer base including Best Buy’s Magnolia Home Theater and Magnolia Design Center stores.  The USA manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $399.
